Website and "Things to Read"
Today’s RARE SENSE newsletter is supplemental and administrative in nature. I have a few things that I want to announce.
First off, I’m excited to share that there is now a RARE SENSE website at www.raresense.com. The most significant addition this site contains compared to the content on Substack is the Resources page. On it, you will find various recommendations I have for books, puzzles, games, apps, and programs pertaining to the pursuit of mind fitness. All of these are things I’ve personally read or used. That said, I have no official affiliation with any of the authors or products. And remember, I’m not a doctor or psychiatrist. Nothing I put out is prescriptive. If you decide to use the apps or programs listed, you do so at your discretion and assumption of risk.
Things to Read
Secondly, in conjunction with Resources, I will start releasing a mid-month “Things to Read” article focused on a book recommendation. Sort of like a “Book of the Month” club without the actual “club” part… We spend far too much time staring at screens these days and not enough looking at pages. One of the core tenets of the RARE SENSE philosophy is “learn.” If you are trading your ability to read for your tendency to watch, you are most likely forsaking your capacity to learn.
To the greatest extent possible, the subject of each book will relate to the theme of the RARE SENSE article published on the 1st of that month. So my first “Thing to Read” recommendation is Conscious by Annaka Harris, a fantastic exploration into what we know and don’t know about the “fundamental mystery of the mind.” It ties in very nicely with March’s RARE SENSE article about the rabbit hole of consciousness and uses layperson language. Reading it doesn’t require any esoteric knowledge or erudition.
If you are interested, please check out the “Things to Read” page on raresense.com. Note that any purchases on products made through links to amazon.com found there may result in a commission paid to Rare Sense LLC via Amazon Associates. I like to be upfront and transparent about such things. Therefore, disclosure language to that effect is at the top of every page where it applies. But this is one way you can support my work (which I greatly appreciate) that costs you nothing extra.
If you end up reading Conscious, please post any thoughts or feedback you have about it on social media with #RARESENSE. I’d love to hear from you.
If you ain’t readin’, you ain’t learnin’. Be Not Dumb.
