This week I want you to work hard at nothing. That may seem like a bizarre prescription, but outside of sleep, how often do you stop doing things these days? Before we all had smartphones, there were times when you were forced just to be. Now we can permanently entertain ourselves 24/7, and when faced with a single second of stillness, we are usually clamoring for our digital leash. Most of us can’t even sit on the toilet without this distraction device.
We’ve lost the ability to do nothing. And it can be everything in allowing our minds to relax, wander, think, and grow. This isn’t meditation. There isn’t anything, in particular, we are trying to focus on. You can keep your eyes open or close them. The only rule is that you can’t externally distract yourself. See what it’s like to sit quietly twice daily for at least eight minutes. Let your mind go, follow it, and don’t forget to feel.
