Many people have trouble falling asleep, including me. Even when exhausted, I can lie awake, struggling to get desperately needed rest. This is usually because I’m ruminating on something. I’m thinking about past or future events in a way that causes stress. My body isn’t the problem. It’s my mind that’s preventing me from sleeping.
Last week, I asked that you read a novel for thirty minutes before bed to get your thoughts out of the real world and into a fantasy of sorts. Utilizing a fictional story in our evening routine can shift some of our mental processing away from worry and angst. This allows us to downshift and drift off more easily.
This week, I’d like you to try something similar but shorter.
