If there’s a single discipline that combines the most mental health training exercises into one practice, it’s Qi Gong (pronounced “chee-gong”). Qi Gong roughly translates to “life energy work” and is meditation, breathwork, and movement wrapped up together. I will write an entire article about it at some point, but as I learned coaching CrossFit, get people moving first. You can explain to them why they are doing it later.
For now, let me say that I find Qi Gong to be one of the most effective ways to dissipate pent-up energy in my body and calm my nervous system. And it’s super simple. Anyone can do it. In my opinion, the best videos are taught by Lee Holden and can be as long as an hour if you subscribe to his content. For now, let’s try this seven-minute routine to reset energy daily for the next week. It’s a fantastic introduction to the training and covers some of my favorite movements.
